The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers is pleased to announce a new pilot program: ASCFG Launch. A recent addition to the ASCFG Mentor Program, ASCFG Launch provides members with short-term mentorship opportunities during which they are guided by experts on cut flower farming topics through online workshops and courses.
Join expert and ASCFG member Miranda Duschack for an exciting opportunity!
During this new three-week online course, participants will learn about the grant application process, how to manage the overall life cycle, and we will explore specific types of grants suitable for cut flower farmers. These sessions are held virtually via Zoom to eliminate travel and financial constraints.
Miranda is the founding co-owner of Urban Buds, established in 2012. Together, she and Mimo Davis grow 70 different varietals of cut flowers annually on their one-acre flower farm in south St. Louis city and sell at Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, direct to florists, and design for wedding and events. In addition to farming, Miranda is a Cooperative Extension agriculture educator for Lincoln University of Missouri. In that role, she reviews grants for the North Central Region (NCR) SARE program and serves on the Farm Service Agency Urban County Committee. She holds a BA from The Evergreen State College (2003) and is originally from rural Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
Note: This course is a suite of strategies; however, it does not guarantee a successful grant application outcome. Furthermore, Miranda cannot advise on a SARE grant application within her 12-state region (Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota). Students seeking the one-hour advisory session should be especially aware of this constraint.
